Dinner Meeting Location

Did you know that our dinner meeting venue for many years is going away? Literally, that is: the building which houses The College Club is being demolished, which means that our last meeting there will be in January 2008.

Along with the location change, unfortunately, comes a price increase - all prices will increase by $2 (see dinner prices below)

Beginning February 27, 2008, the ASWA monthly dinner meetings will be held at the Rainier Golf & Country Club. The location is 11133 Des Moines Memorial Drive S. Seattle, WA 98168, and is approximately 15 minutes from downtown Seattle. There is technically a dress code, but the only rule that might affect our members is that jeans are not allowed.

It's easy to get there by bus! You can catch Metro Bus #132 on 2nd Ave, southbound, from Lenora St to S Jackson St. This bus goes directly to the Country Club. You could leave 2nd & Pike at 4:54pm and arrive at the Country Club at 5:35pm. The next bus from 2nd & Pike is at 5:32pm. Returning downtown, you can catch the northbound #132 bus on the hour, at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30pm. Check http://transit.metrokc.gov/ for updates.

Cost:

Members $27 ($26 if you have Standing Reservations)
Faculty $27.00
Guests $29.00
Student Members $19.00
Student Guests $21.00
Coffee Only $5.00

Here is some background regarding the search for a new location, from Arrangements Chair Adrienne Lowber:

The criteria that were important to the Arrangements Committee and our organization included: free parking, reasonable catering fee, waived room charge, location, flexibility to change the date of the meeting or group size, menu and the availability of a no-host bar.

To that end, I have used my family connections, my connections as Vice President of Finance for US Foodservice and, of course, your recommendations. We spent a good deal of time researching colleges, restaurants, hotels and institutions. There were a few attractive alternatives, but none could match the current dinner price and free parking.

We know this location is not ideal for everyone, but the facility is beautiful, the food is great with excellent vegetarian options. The setting is fabulous and the people who run the catering business are pleasant, easy to work with and thrilled to have us. We hope to see you in February for student night at this new venue. Please let us know what you think. As is always the case, the Board may ask us to review the location six months after the transition in February. Thank you!!
